Anniversaries, whether they celebrate births, deaths, weddings or what-ever kind – are always occasions of great significance.

And they become even more special when they mark milestones or turning point in the existence of an individual, group or organization.

This week – on Wednesday, Nov. 11 – NEGROS WEEKLY News-Magazine celebrates a very special occasion, its 20th founding anniversary.  The paper was established by a group of civic leaders and businessmen, who wanted the print media audience to read more stories of development and growth in the whole province and not just in Bacolod City which has been the common coverage fare of locally-produced newspapers.

This special occasion, we launch the NEGROS DAILY NOW, a two-in-one service to our readers through www.negrosnowdaily.com and the NND magazine-tabloid. We believe that Negros readers must continue to be informed, treated to a diversity of enlightened viewpoints, entertained and be updated on their skills, habits and mindset, particularly in this unusual season of health crisis.

The online edition, which started operating on a trial run in late September, provides readers with the latest reports and carries an additional package of stories on previously seldom-focused yet important facets of our lives, like education, youth, environment, health and overseas Filipinos which, to our mind, give a needed balance in the Negrosanons’ reading fare.

The maga-tabloid, is a promotional medium which will be given free to offices and establishments. Hopefully, our one resources will allow us to increase our initial circulation frequency, which is every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

An anniversary is also an occasion of thanks giving. Thus, we are expressing our appreciation to you, our faithful readers for the past two decades, our advertisers, news sources and supportives for keeping your faith in us.

On a special note, we are thankful to the group of civic leaders and businessmen who hatched this publication in November 2000 and, three years later turned over to the editors the ownership of the paper, making it 100 percent-run by community journalists.

Today, we are just as grateful to our opinion writers, representing various sectors and persuasions for readily accepting our invitation to write for this publication as we mark this turning point.

Above all, we are thankful to the Divine Providence for His faithfulness for reading us since Year 1. We are confident that He will continue to guide us in this mission to provide right and responsible reports and points of view in a world often easily influenced by disinformation.

As we continue to put our trust in Him and hope that you, our readers, and other stakeholders will keep on supporting us, we realize that more challenges lie ahead to be surmounted and responsibilities to be fulfilled in the pursuit of Truth as we enter our third decade of information service to Negrosanons.
