The event was spearheaded by the PowerHouse School of Talents, in partnership with the municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto (DSB) and Project Abyan, a community initiative led by environmental advocate Alex Manlapao that promotes sustainable living and environmental awareness across Negros Occidental.

Leading the ceremonial planting were Miss Universe Philippines Bacolod 2024 Louise Lian Bobe, Diwata sang Kali 2024 Jamaicah Bantigue, Miss Bacolod MassKara 2024 1st Runner-Up and Lin-ay sang Bacolod 2025 Akeisha Nicole Nuarin, and Dinagyawan Queen 2024 Sophia Kaye Zaragoza.

Over 670 seedlings were planted as beauty queens, volunteers, and local leaders joined forces for “Plant8: A Powerful Giveback”, tree-growing activity in Barangay Kumaliskis, Don Salvador Benedicto, in Negros Occidental June 28.

They were joined by PowerHouse CEO and founder Jelliane Rose Villacuatro, Faith Laurese Edwards representing Ms. Philippines Earth Filipino Community of Tampa, Florida, and Mark Anthony Duaman, Mr. Earth Philippines Water 2024.

More than 70 participants — including students, parents, barangay officials, and volunteers — gathered to plant over 670 narra seedlings, strengthening Don Salvador Benedicto’s reforestation efforts and commitment to protecting its natural resources.

The PowerHouse School of Talents, known for its principles of beauty, purpose, and empowerment, aims to mold confident, socially responsible, and compassionate individuals who use their talents and influence to create positive change in their communities, a press release said.

“This is more than just an outreach activity — this is our way of giving back to nature and making sure we leave a better world for our children,” said Bobe, who also advocates for environmental sustainability and maternal health. “Every seedling we planted today represents our hope and commitment to a greener tomorrow.”

Villacuatro echoed the importance of the event. “At PowerHouse, we believe beauty should always come with purpose. By instilling values of care for the environment in our students, we teach them that real queens and kings protect both people and the planet.”

The municipal government expressed gratitude for the support of PowerHouse and Project Abyan, noting that activities like this are essential in maintaining the town’s rich forest cover and educating the youth about the importance of environmental stewardship.

According to the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, Negros Occidental has lost significant forest cover in the past decades due to illegal logging, land conversion, and forest fires.

However, intensified reforestation programs and community-led initiatives, like this tree planting in DSB, are helping restore the province’s remaining forests, which are crucial for biodiversity, water sources, and protection against natural disasters, the press release added. ||
