The nine pioneering midwifery scholars of Moises Padilla expressed gratitude to Mayor Ella Celestina Garcia-Yulo and the municipal government for the all-out support in completing their studies at Southland College in Kabankalan City.

One of the scholars, Jonathan Yusores Jr., who received the Clinical Proficiency Award, told the Negros NOW Daily June 26 that they are “beyond blessed and forever grateful to our beloved, empowered, and compassionate mayor.”

From enrollment until the graduation June 13, the mayor and the municipal government have been full supportive. “Wala gid kami ginpabay-an ni mayor. Ginhatag niya ang bug-os nga suporta. Sang una, damgo lang ini, pero subong, graduate na kami.”

Aside from Yusores Jr., the other scholars are Larnie Magbanua, Wishryl Billones, Nice Royo, Joyce Ellen Talaban, Gleanie Cabrejas, Jerlyn Servas, Jelly Ann Mones, and Mia Grace Gayola.

Yusores said they benefited from full tuition, school uniforms, monthly allowances, rice assistance, free boarding house, free transportation going home, and other assistance.

“As one of the scholars, I am also deeply honored and humbled to receive the Clinical Proficiency Award, which I dedicate not only to my family but also to the entire municipality of Moises Padilla and to Mayor Ella — nga wala gid nag biya sa amon nga mga pangarap,” he added.

The LGU will also assist the graduates during their review for the Board exam, and will accept applications for new scholars, the town said in a post.

The Southland College posted that the midwifery scholarship initiative led by Garcia-Yulo is a “milestone made possible through (her) all-out support and unwavering commitment to accessible healthcare and inclusive education”.

From full tuition coverage to allowances, accommodations, uniforms, and board exam preparation, each scholar’s journey was fully supported, proving that real leadership invests not only in infrastructure, but in human potential, it added.

The school also congratulated the graduates, especially Yusores, for exemplifying excellence and dedication. “These young midwives are now prepared to serve communities in need, offering care, compassion, and competence to every mother and child they encounter”.

“To our community in Moises Padilla, our partners across Negros Occidental, and future scholars, this achievement is proof that when leadership, education, and hope come together, transformation begins,” it said, adding “it is proud to stand alongside champions like mayor Ella in building a brighter, healthier tomorrow.” ||
