Fashion show, performances in Heritage Month culmination

The “Vamos Runway” show and several performances capped off the National Heritage Month celebration in San Carlos City May 30.

The event at the City Auditorium was also highlighted by the awarding of winners of various competitions, in line with the Heritage Month observance.

The fashion show featured modernized Filipiniana and Barong by talented local designers John Lawrence Amante, Khryss Casalda Bucar, Angel Mae Palaubsanon Rubin, Bertha Marie Bacon Brown, and Richardson Sonny Apayla, the city said.

A showcase of talents through singing, dancing, and theatrical acts were also delivered by the San Carlos City Chamber Orchestra and Vocal Ensemble, who serenaded the crowd with Pilita Corrales medley; the SCC Dance Company with their interpretative dance of tattoo by Jordin Sparks, addressing tattoo discrimination; as well as stellar performances from the Cabagtasan Tribal Group’ Binanog Dance, Nabingkalan Folkloric Coterie, SCC Dancesport Team, and Vamos Drumbeaters.

The crowd was also left in awe as a theatrical performance featuring the legends of Princess Nabingka unfolded, the city said.

Winners of various contest were also awarded.

For poster making contest, 1st prize was Nico Romano of Brgy. Punao, 2nd prize – Dorothy Adelaide Fedrequilam of Brgy. III, and 3rd prize – Rodel Dela Torre of Central Phillipine State University.

For spoken poetry, 1st prize was Lovely Joy Taparan of Brgy. 5, 2nd prize – Glenna Mae Villacorda of Brgy. I, and 3rd prize – Simeon Bienvenido Jr. of CPSU-San Carlos.

The winners received P5,000 for the 1st place, P2,000 as 2nd prize, P1,000 for the 3rd prize, and P500 as consolidation prize.

Certificate of appreciation were also given to Cultural Mappers, a group of selected Araling Panlipunan teachers involved in a series of recording, evaluating, and documenting tangible and intangible artifacts and natural heritage of the city.

San Carlos City Heritage, Culture, and the Arts Council (SCCHCAC) officer-in-charge, Engr. Magnolia Antonio, welcomed the attendees and said that Heritage Month is a time designated to celebrate and recognize the history, culture, and contributions of the people who have shaped the city into what it is today.

She added that throughout the celebration, they witnessed how heritage not only leaves behind grand monuments and history, but also embodies resilience, creativity, and community—qualities that were showcased throughout the month-long celebration.

San Carlos Mayor Renato Gustilo said the city takes great pride in hosting the event and in presenting the talented Sancarloseños that have brought pride to the city.

He cited the city’s progress across various aspects with the collective effort of numerous individuals. He also mentioned about reaching out to the new owner of the Atienza House to ask for some of its artifacts to be preserved, so that they could be used to build a replica for future generations to experience and learn from. | SCC PIO photos
