Free charging stations were made available by the Victorias local government at its Command and Evacuation Center after a power outage Oct. 15 that affected the city, as well as the towns of E.B. Magalona and Manapla.

The tripping-off incident at the Victorias substation occurred at around 5:50 a.m. Tuesday. As of 7:30 last night, the whole of E.B. Magalona and several areas of Victorias and Manapla were still without electricity.

Northern Negros Electric Cooperative general manager, Engr. Wilbe Bilbao, said “the entire team is working around the clock to ensure that power is restored as swiftly as possible.”

“Our Warriors of Light conducted transformer testing to confirm and verify the transformer’s overall status. However, given the scale of the incident, restoration efforts are ongoing and may take some time to fully resolve,” Noneco said in a statement.

Bilbao said load shifting to adjacent substations was also being done. “We have written a letter to Noceco (Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative) requesting the use of their reserve 10MVA power transformer while the original 15MVA power transformer in Victorias is under repair.”

Noneco also requested the Victorias Milling Company, a co-generating company embedded in the 15MVA Victorias substation distribution line, to provide a 2.5megawatt supply of electricity to some affected consumers.

“We are also in coordination with NEPC requesting to supply power to E.B. Magalona,” Bilbao said in the post.

Noneco asked for “patience and understanding as our teams work tirelessly to restore power and ensure the safety of our facilities.” | CGC
