Former Hinobaan town Mayor Ernesto Estrao yesterday said there is a possibility for him to run for congressman of the 6th district of Negros Occidental under the banner of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
Estrao, who was appointed as the party’s district chairman, said that plans will be finalized next week.
Former President Rodrigo Duterte serves as the chairman emeritus of PDP-Laban, with Palawan 2nd District Rep. Jose Alvarez as the national president, and Negrense lawyer Jesus “JV” Hinlo Jr. occupying the position as vice president for Visayas.
If Estrao will get the endorsement of PDP-Laban, he is set to challenge the incumbent Rep. Mercedes Alvarez.
Estrao, who served as the mayor of Hinobaan for nine years, lost his bid for vice mayor during the 2022 elections.
The former Hinobaan mayor was observed to have been making the rounds in the towns and cities of 6th district and meeting with multi-sectoral groups, whom he said urged him to run for congressman.
In the local level, Estrao said he is allied with Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, president of United Negros Alliance. | GB
