Panay News columnist elected NPC president

Erwin Ambo Delilan, columnist of regional newspaper Panay News, was elected president of the Negros Press Club during the general assembly held at the NPC building in Bacolod City on Saturday, Jan. 20.

Delilan succeeded Bryan Morden of XFM 96.7 Bacolod to lead the 88-year-old press club, considered as the oldest in the country, for the term 2024-2025.

Garnering 33 votes, he prevailed over Romeo Subaldo of Digicast Negros and Chito Berjit of Aletheia Netcast Bacolod, who got 22 and 13 votes, respectively.

Also elected as officers of the Negros Press Club were Nida Buenafe (Negros Now Daily), vice president; Lourd John Diaz (DyEZ Aksyon Radyo Bacolod), secretary; Nanette Guadalquiver, treasurer (Philippine News Agency); Nona Magbanua (DYEZ Aksyon Radyo Bacolod), auditor; Mae Singuay (Panay News), Yves Montecillo (RMN DYHB Bacolod), Rey Siason (DYRL), and Dolly Yasa (Daily Guardian), directors.

“This is really a clean victory. I know I am unwanted by some of our fellow NPC members, but I promised myself and my family that I would do my best to be relevant to this club,” Delilan said.

He vowed to advocate for servant leadership and work for the advancement and welfare of the club members through various projects and programs with the club’s partners and supporters.

Elected unopposed were Nida Buenafe (Negros Now Daily) as vice president; Lourd John Diaz (DyEZ Aksyon Radyo Bacolod), secretary; and Nanette Guadalquiver, treasurer (Philippine News Agency).

Nona Magbanua (DYEZ Aksyon Radyo Bacolod) won as auditor while Mae Singuay (Panay News), Yves Montecillo (RMN DYHB Bacolod), Rey Siason (DYRL), and Dolly Yasa (Daily Guardian) were voted as directors.

The term of the new set of officers will start on March 1. ||
