About P161 million in road upgrade and repairs has been implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways in Negros Occidental.

The DPWH Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office said Dec. 19 that it completed the paving of roads in Sipalay City that lead to potential tourist destinations in the area, and in Ilog town, for better mobility of people and faster delivery of goods and services.

The road construction in Crossing Manaolan, Barangay IV, Sipalay City, worth P9.9 million, involved the concrete paving of a 649-lineal meter long, five-meter-wide Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP), with grouted riprap and solar LED streetlights.

Another P9.9 million was poured in by the District for the concrete paving of a road in Barangay Calubang, Ilog town, which involved improvements, from gravel to PCCP, of the 855-lineal meter long, five-meter-wide road with grouted riprap and slope protection, the DPWH said.

The department’s Sub District Engineering Office, meanwhile, said it improved a road network in San Carlos City, which involved the asphalt overlay of a 450-meter long, two-outer lane portion of the four-lane road, worth P11.27 million.

Another two-outer lane portion, measuring 1.237 kilometers, was also overlaid with asphalt, in the amount of P30.22 million, the DPWH said.

The District has also undertaken the asphalt overlaying of a 3.494-kilometer, four-lane portion of the Bacolod-Murcia-Don Salvador Benedicto-San Carlos City Road, specifically in Don Salvador Benedicto town, in the amount of P100 million.

DPWH6 OIC-regional director Sanny Boy Oropel said these road upgrading projects facilitate a convenient mobility of people and the transport of goods and services.

“The concrete road that leads to potential tourist sites in Barangay IV, Sipalay City, opens opportunities for local tourism that would create income-generating livelihood for the people in the locality,” Oropel said in a statement, adding that “upgrading this road will likewise ensure the safety of road users and tourists.”

Enhanced navigation, especially at night, is also guaranteed with the provision of solar LED streetlights, improving visibility among motorists and pedestrians, Oropel added. | CGC
