The mayor of Pulupandan in Negros Occidental has resigned as the town local chief executive, barely three weeks after he assumed office.
In his July 20 letter to Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, Pulupandan Mayor Lorenzo Eduardo Mario Antonio Suatengco said he decided to vacate his position due to unforeseen health reasons, which he stressed, will affect his capacity to carry out his responsibilities as local chief executive.
Suatengco stated in his letter that his resignation is irrevocable and takes effect today, July 20.
Lacson said he accepted Suatengco’s resignation.
He said that Roselyn Quintana, provincial director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, has already been given a copy of the letter.
Suatengco was replaced by Vice Mayor Miguel Antonio Peña, who took his oath of office as Pulupandan mayor, before the governor. Peña and Suatengco are first cousins.
Taking over as vice mayor is Pulupandan number one councilor, Anthony Gerard Suatengco, who was also sworn in by Lacson.
Peña was unopposed when he ran for vice mayor of Pulupandan in the May 9 elections, after completing his three terms as the town’s LCE.
The resigned mayor, on the other hand, replaced his father, former mayor Antonio “Tony” Suatengco, who died on Feb. 27, while running unopposed as mayor of Pulupandan in this year’s polls./GB
