Four new electric vehicles (EVs) have arrived at the Bacolod City Government Center for use by the Office of the Building Official (OBO) to support daily field inspections and operational duties.
Secretary to the mayor, Atty. Jose Marty Go, said the blessing and turnover of the units will take place today, July 23.
“This is in compliance with the national policy of the Department of Energy that encourages local government units to go for electric vehicles to save energy,” Go said.
He said that deploying electric vehicles to city offices is part of an ongoing initiative of the Bacolod LGU on energy efficiency, to reduce reliance on conventional fuel, and manage operating costs amid rising pump prices.
He said that aside from OBO, the City Planning and the City Engineer’s Office are also in the process of procuring EVs.
While the City Mayor’s Office previously donated 10 electric patrol cars to the police force, this marks the first expansion of electric vehicles for use in administrative services.
Go said that Mayor Greg Gasataya is also planning to establish several EV charging stations across Bacolod. | TMD
