The 601 barangays of Negros Occidental are set to receive a total of P120.2 million in financial assistance under the Bawat Barangay Makikinabang: Presidential Assistance Socio-Civic Projects Fund.
Board Member Richard Julius Sablan, president of the provincial Liga ng mga Barangay, said each of the 601 barangays will receive P200,000.
Under the assistance package, P100,000 will be allocated for priority infrastructure and development projects while the remaining P100,000 will be earmarked for educational assistance through the Bagong Pilipinas Barangay Scholars Program. Five college students from every barangay will each receive P20,000 in educational aid.
Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II, who met with Sablan earlier this week, said the provincial government received the funds last week.
Diaz added that the Sangguniang Panlalawigan already gave Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson an authority to sign the memorandum of agreement (MOA) with each beneficiary barangay.
The signing of MOA for the barangay captains of the third and fourth districts will be held on July 23, Thursday while the first and sixth districts on July 24 at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall in Bacolod City.
Those from the second and fifth districts will sign on July 25 in the same venue. | GPB
