The Sipalay City government and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 6 inaugurated Balay Silangan in Brgy 3 in the city recently.
Balay Silangan is a program that builds temporary shelters to drug offenders with the objective of reforming them into self-sufficient and law-abiding members of the society”.
The launching and inauguration included the blessing of the facility, led by Rev. Fr. Fernando Villanueva Jr., and witnessed by personnel from concerned offices and agencies.
The reformation center in Sipalay City is the 46th in Western Visayas and the 5th in the province of Negros Occidental.
PDEA 6 acting regional director Donelyn Hemedez said in her message that “helping other people means helping ourselves, thus, continuing to support the community through unity,” a press release from the city said.
The event was attended by City Administrator Philip Zamora, who is the focal person of the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council, along with Katherin Maguad of the City Mayor’s Office, City Health Officer Dr. Florencio Juplo 2nd, City Local Government Operations officer Leo Agbas, P/Maj. James Latayon Jr. of the Sipalay PNP, BJMP-OIC SJO4 Rommel Ravello, Sipalay City BFP fire marshal SFO3 Norvic Mangubat, pastor Samuel Garcia, and representatives from City Vice Mayor’s Office, Sipalay City Schools Division Office, City Social Welfare and Development, and the Office of Senior Citizen Affairs. | NND
