Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz yesterday said they are encountering difficulties in the conduct province-wide of the antigen testing among close contacts of COVID-19 infected persons, due to hesitancy, or reluctance on their part.
Diaz said they have to compel some of these contacts to be tested.
He, however, said the provincial-managed molecular labs were still able to conduct 300 to 500 tests a day.
“While we do the contact tracing, our primary focus remains on vaccination,” Diaz said. “It is more of a proactive approach that will save a lot of lives,” he added.
Diaz also said that vaccination at the Negros Residences and in the towns and cities of Negros Occidental continues without let-up.
The Provincial Health Office, meanwhile, reported 14 COVID-related deaths yesterday, bringing to 22 the number of fatalities in Negros Occidental since Oct. 27.
The PHO also reported 126 new active cases.
Provincial Incident Management Team chief Zeaphard Gerhard Caelian also reported 151 cases Oct. 27, with seven deaths in Murcia and one in Sipalay City.
There were 292 recoveries from COVID that same day.
Caelian said the number of COVID-related deaths reported in a day does not necessarily mean that they all died that particular day.
He said the accumulation in the number of deaths was due to delayed reporting of local government units, and these reports have to undergo strict verification. – GB
