The Land Transportation Office-Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR) apprehended two colorum (unregistered) vehicles in separate operations on Aug. 11 as part of its intensified crackdown on illegal transport operations.
The first vehicle was intercepted in E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental while carrying five passengers traveling from Bacolod City to Sagay City.
In a statement, LTO-NIR said the vehicle was allegedly collecting fares ranging from P100 to P150 per passenger and was operating without the required certificate of public convenience/permit to operate.
In Silay City, another colorum vehicle was intercepted while transporting 13 passengers from Sagay City to Bacolod City.
The vehicle was allegedly charging fares ranging from P70 to P150 per passenger.
Both vehicles were found to be operating for hire without the necessary authorization.
Under existing regulations, operating a vehicle without the required certificate of public convenience/permit to operate carries a fine of P200,000 per vehicle.
The operations were conducted by the Regional Law Enforcement Service headed by deputy head Gifford Selloriquez as part of the LTO-NIR’s continuing campaign against unauthorized and illegal transport activities.
“Colorum operations have no place on our roads. We will continue to enforce the law firmly and consistently because public safety cannot be compromised,” LTO-NIR Regional Director Jeck Conlu said in a statement. | GPB
