The provincial government of Negros Occidental has terminated the services of 30 Capitol watchmen, who are either job order (JO) or contract of service (COS) workers, effective Jan. 1 this year.

The non-renewal of job contracts of two security officers and 28 watchmen was stipulated in a letter of Provincial Human Resource Management Office officer-in-charge Felomina Gozon addressed to Renelo Lastierre, head of Security and Safety Division, dated Jan. 3.

Lastierre served as the supervisor of the civilian Capitol watchmen assigned in various hospitals, among other properties of the provincial government.

In July last year, 39 Capitol-hired watchmen were pulled out from their respective assignments and reassigned to the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II yesterday confirmed the non-renewal of job contracts of JO and COS workers, based on their job performance.

Diaz also said that JO and COS employees, who tested positive for drug use, will be terminated from their jobs regardless of the results of the confirmatory testing.

Some 20 Capitol-based employees and seven hospital-based workers have been tested positive for illegal drug use during the random testing last month. | GB
