28 distressed OFWs get financial assistance

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) yesterday awarded about P500,000 worth of financial assistance to 28 distressed/displaced overseas Filipino Workers from Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

Rizza Joy Moldes, OWWA Western Visayas officer-in-charge, led the awarding of checks to seven Bacolodnons and 21 Negrense overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) under the “Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay Program.”

The beneficiaries, who came from Hinobaan, E.B. Magalona, Calatrava, Sagay City, Silay City, San Carlos City, Cadiz City and Bacolod City, received a minimum of P5,000 to a maximum of P20,000 for their livelihood projects.

The turn-over rites, held at the Hospital Operations Department Conference Room of the Provincial Capitol, was witnessed by Salvacion Barrios, president of the OFW Federation of Negros Occidental Inc. and Executive Assistant IV Marie June Castro, coordinator of the project on “Establishing and Institutionalizing Gender Responsive Migrant Resource Center, Help Desks and Services for women migrants of Negros Occidental”, supported by the International Labor Organization.

Before the awarding of checks, the beneficiaries attended a psychosocial counselling session. | GB
