No one is ‘there’ anymore

Have you ever noticed how people these days seemed to be ‘tuned out’ most of the time? You get on the subway and everyone has their faces buried in their phones or tablets. Even when you go to meetings, I’ll lay you odds that one or two people present, if the attendance is more than five or six, will spend a good bit of their time checking their phones. Even at meal time, the time when families spent time ‘with’ each other—at least, that’s what they did when I was a kid—people have their phones at hand and more times than I care to count I’ve observed groups eating together in restaurants and the entire table is ‘on the phone,’ sometimes not even looking at the food they’re shoveling into their mouths.

Time for healing

As they say, we have to move-on and that should be done collectively as part of the process. It’s time for healing, no matter how long it takes to begin, especially after ties among friends, neighbors, colleagues and even family members were also bruised and broken.

Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board 6 chairman, Atty. Sixto Rodriguez Jr., told the Negros NOW Daily on Friday, May 13, that they have submitted to the National Wages Productivity Commission (NWPC) for review and approval a P55 increase to the current P395 rate in the non-agricultural/industrial/commercial industries employing more than 10 workers; P110 add-on to the P310 rate of those employing 10 workers or less; and additional P95 to the P315 daily wage received by workers in the agricultural sector.
