One hundred and fifty-nine persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the San Carlos City District Jail in Negros Occidental received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine Oct. 6.
All recipients, who belong to priority groups A1 to A5, underwent screening, such as blood pressure and health history checks, before the actual inoculation of the Sinovac vaccine.
Chief Inspector Alexander Sy, jail warden of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, said the PDLs need to get inoculated in preparation for the possible resumption of jail visitation, a press release from the city said.
He added that the BJMP is also coordinating with the City Health Office about the 25 new inmates, who have yet to receive their first dose of the vaccine against COVID.
A female inmate said she is happy to get fully vaccinated for her protection from COVID-19 and urged those still undecided to also receive the vaccines for their own safety.
Earlier, 140 inmates and one employee of the BJMP in Bago City, Negros Occidental, also received their first dose of the Sinovac vaccine Sept. 25.
The vaccine rollout was initiated by the Bago City government, in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross-Negros Occidental Chapter. | NND
