Since he is now a civilian and no longer in the government service, former governor Isidro Zayco wants to give up the provincial chairmanship of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) in Negros Occidental.

Zayco said he wants to turn over the position to NPC members, who are incumbent officials, either Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, First District Rep. Gerardo Valmayor or Sixth District Rep. Mercedes Alvarez.

But he will remain with NPC as a member, he added.

Zayco was reported to have been eyeing a return as mayor of Kabankalan City.

He did not confirm it, but said it will be known in October during the filing of the certificate of candidacy.

His brother, Pedro Zayco, was defeated by Benjie Miranda, a former soldier-turned-politician, in the Kabankalan City mayoralty race in 2022. | GB
