Former Mayor Isidro Zayco has remained tight-lipped on whether he is making a comeback as mayor of Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental.

On Sunday, the incumbent Benjie Miranda confirmed his re-election bid in the May 2025 mid-term elections.

There are initial reports that the Kabankalan City mayoralty race will be a three-cornered fight, between Miranda, Zayco, and Sixth District Board Member Valentino Miguel Alonso.

In an interview on Monday, Zayco said it remains to be seen, adding that the election is still far.

“Many things will happen, and we don’t know who will run,” he added.

Zayco said he expects Miranda to seek reelection being the incumbent mayor.

For his part, Miranda, a former Army soldier turned politician, said that his series of consultations with fellow Kabankalanons showed that majority of them wants him to continue his service.

Zayco, who had been in politics for more than 30 years, became a board member, vice governor and governor of Negros Occidental aside from being mayor of Kabankalan City. | GB
