The Provincial Health Office of Negros Occidental reminded the public to watch their eating habits during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, provincial health officer, said yesterday that with limited gathering activities because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, some people would tend to prepare food that will last for several days.

There are food that needs to be consumed right away, but there also those that can last up to 24 hours which can be stored.

“Refrigerate unconsumed foods and change its container if possible to maintain its freshness,” the PHO advisory said.

Tumimbang said that with limited space for physical exercise due to  protocols of social distancing, some people forget the importance of the physical movement  to burn unwanted fats and to stimulate proper blood circulation.

“Being glued on TV sets while eating is not a good habit for all ages since it won’t help proper digestion,” he said.

Those taking maintenance medicines for hypertension and those having diabetes should always check their blood pressure and blood sugar as over eating and lack of exercise have been the common cause for these illnesses, he also said. – MML
