Victorias turns over laptops, TVs to 49 child development centers

In a major step towards strengthening early childhood education, the City of Victorias distributed laptops, printers, and television units, received by child development workers (CDWs) during a ceremonial turnover at the Don Alejandro Acuña Yap Quiña Arts and Cultural Center, Oct. 21.

This initiative demonstrates the city’s commitment to enhancing the quality of education for young learners and improving the operational efficiency of its CDWs.

During the distribution ceremony, Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez highlighted the importance of investing in education, calling it a “long-term investment” that begins with empowering teachers and students alike.

He reiterated the city’s dedication to ensuring that educators have access to the tools necessary for effective teaching, especially of children in their critical formative years.

The laptops, printers, and television sets were distributed to all 49 CDWs, with federation president Rosemarie Cagadas and cluster heads Trinidad Sumagaysay, Elvira Menoso, Ma. Fe Agulay, and Hazel Fernandez leading the ceremonial receipt, on behalf of all the CWDs.

This initiative is expected to improve day-to-day operations in the centers, streamline administrative tasks, and enhance learning experiences for the children, the city said in a press release Oct. 23.

City Social Welfare and Development Officer Joy Reunir expressed her gratitude for the city’s steadfast support to early childhood education, adding that Victorias stands out for its strong commitment to education, not only in Negros Occidental, but even across the region.

“Kung libuton niyo bilog nga Negros Occidental, sa Victorias ka lang makakita sang amo ni ka bakod nga support,” she noted.

Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Portia Mallorca, during her speech, underscored the commitment and competence of the CDWs.

She also noted that with the new equipment, all child development centers in the city are now fully equipped.

In addition, the City IT Section is prepared to assist CDWs for any technical concern they may encounter while using the gadgets, to ensure that the transition to using the new equipment is smooth and efficient.

The distribution was also attended by City Vice Mayor Abelardo Bantug III, several councilors, and City Administrator Lindolf De Castro, and was spearheaded by the City Social Welfare and Development Office, led by Reunir. ||
