The Victorias City government lauded Barangay VI-A for securing third place in the city category of the 2024 Provincial Search for the Best Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC).

“This recognition was made possible through the hard work of Punong Barangay (PB) Anna Mae Claro and the rest of the Barangay VI-A Council for the Protection of Children, under the leadership of Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez and city officials, the technical assistance and guidance of the Social Welfare and Development Office, and all its program partners,” the city said Nov. 27.

The award highlights the city’s commitment to the theme of this year’s National Children’s Month, “Break the Prevalence, End the Violence: Protecting Children, Creating a Safe Philippines!”, it added.

The city also recognized winners of the search for the Best Barangay Council for the Protection of Children during the regular flag-raising ceremony at the public plaza Nov. 25.

Barangay VI-A, led by Claro, was awarded first place, followed by Barangay XIII, under PB Eric Alcobilla, and Barangay XI, led by PB Mary Pugna, in second and third places, respectively.

Certificates of commendation were presented to these barangays for their exemplary initiatives in safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare within their communities, the city said.

The Victorias LGU also actively participated in the provincial opening of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) in Talisay City.

Representing the LGU were 15 participants from BVAW officers, women organizations, PNP, and social welfare personnel.

The nationwide campaign, which runs from Nov. 25 to Dec. 12, aims to raise awareness and advocate for policy reforms to address VAW, emphasizing the importance of collective action and community involvement. ||
