Victorias City lauded for commitment to public service

The city government of Victorias in Negros Occidental was recognized during the BAGANI Local Governance Awards 2024 spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Oct. 11.

Victorias City was awarded for its outstanding efforts in localizing the DILG Negros Occidental Local Governance Quizzard, dubbed “Pa Quiz Bee sa SP.”

Its inclusion as a potential passer of the prestigious 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Awards by the Regional Assessment Team further underscores its commitment to excellent public service and governance, it said in a press release.

Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez, president of the Negros Association of Chief Executives, was also recognized for his support to DILG Negros Occidental and its Local Governance Resource Center.

His leadership and dedication played a vital role in the success of the 33rd Local Government Code Month Celebration, it added.

The plaque of recognition was presented by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, DILG Negros Island Region Director Lailyn Ortiz and Assistant Regional Director Teodora Sumagaysay.

Victorias City emerged victorious in the 3rd Local Governance Quizzard, in celebration of the 33rd Local Government Code Month and Anniversary at Robinsons Place Bacolod on Oct. 9.

Organized by the DILG Negros Occidental, the event tested the participants’ knowledge on the Local Government Code, local legislation, and various DILG programs and projects.

Victorias City’s Barangay Category team, composed of village chief  Andrie Delgado of Barangay XIX-A, village chief Melba Silava of Barangay XVIII-A, and councilman Rolando Germino of Barangay XIII, clinched the championship.

The city was first runner-up in the Civil Society Organization Category, represented by Myrtle Mae Lamboso, Katrina Janine Bauya of Negros Occidental Drug Rehabilitation Foundation, and Ann Rose Gicana of Kaayong Lawas Foundation.

The City/Municipal Category team led by Councilor Dino Jose Maria Acuña, City Social Welfare and Development Office head Joy Reunir, and City Treasurer Maria Rosielyn Gustilo placed second runner-up. ||
