‘Undas’ travelers urged to follow protocols

The Philippine Coast Guard Western Visayas District is reminding travellers going home for the All Saints and All Souls days’ observance to strictly follow the health protocols and adhere to the rules and requirements of LGUs of destination.

PCG 6 district commander, Capt. Edgar Ybañez, said that starting today, Oct. 29, they have deployed personnel with K9 units to the different ports in the region, including Bacolod City and Negros Occidental, to help in the inspection of baggage.

He added that the PCG main headquarters is planning to establish another substation in Negros Occidental.

The new station will focus its operations in southern Negros Occidental that covers large coastal areas.

The PCG already has five substations in southern Negros, located in Pulupandan, Hinigaran, Himamaylan, Cauayan, and Hinobaan.

The Bacolod City substation belongs to the north, which includes Sagay, Cadiz, Escalante, and San Carlos.

Ybañes said that as the new commander, one of his priorities is to strengthen the law enforcement function of the PCG, especially in the implementation of the Fisheries Code and the campaign against illegal fishing.

He said he met with substation commanders in Negros Occidental this morning and instructed them to focus on enforcing the law.

Ybañez assumed his post Oct. 5. He said that, as now, there are no plans to reshuffle station commanders in Region 6. –MML
