A significant milestone in healthcare was recently achieved by the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital (TLJPH) in Silay City, Negros Occidental after it successfully performed the first endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) procedure in Negros Island Region and Western Visayas.
The breakthrough was led by Dr. Wendell Espinosa of the Endoscopy Unit, marking a new chapter in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal care in the region.
Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II hailed the achievement as a major step forward in bringing cutting-edge medical services closer to Negrenses.
The success follows the acquisition of an upgraded endoscopy tower and an intensive training program involving more than 50 gastroenterologists, internists, and nurses.
Diaz said the initiative aimed to ensure that healthcare professionals are equipped with the necessary expertise to maximize the benefits of modern medical technology.
Dr. Josephine Pahamtang, chief of hospital, and Dr. Francis Relota, chief of clinics, were recognized by the Negros Occidental provincial government for their leadership and support in the successful training and implementation of the new procedure.
Diaz said the investment in advanced equipment and professional development reflects TLJPH’s commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services while strengthening medical education in the province.
Team TLJPH also expressed its gratitude to Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, Vice Governor Jose Benito Alonso, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, and provincial department heads for their support of the endoscopy workshop held on May 29.
The successful introduction of endoscopic ultrasound positions TLJPH as a leader in advanced gastrointestinal care in NIR and Western Visayas, and underscores its continuing mission to deliver quality healthcare and foster medical innovation for the people of Negros Occidental, Diaz said. | GPB
