Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said Aug. 22 that starting next year, government employees, including public school teachers, will receive medical allowance of P7,000.
“Yung tinatawag po nating medical allowance, bago po ‘yan. It will start next year po. Dati, sa executive po, wala po kaming HMO (health maintenance organization). Wala po kaming medical allowance. Uniform po na matatanggap ang medical allowance, P7,000. Lahat po, pati po ang ating mga teachers,” Pangandaman said.
“Ang alam ko po ngayon ang nare-receive ng DepEd teachers for the longest time is just P500. So, kahit papaano po nakatulong,” she said, adding the amount is included under the teaching allowance, formerly called cash allowance.
Pagandaman also discussed the 2025 National Expenditure Program (NEP) and the salary increase for government workers, as provided in Executive Order (EO) No. 64 signed early this month by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
As per the EO, government employees will also receive an annual medical allowance not exceeding P7,000 as a subsidy for the availment of HMO-type benefits, the DBM said in a press release.
Apart from the salary increase and medical allowance for teachers, other benefits intended for the country’s educators will be earmarked allocations in the 2025 NEP.
These include the teaching allowance, compensation for teaching overload, special hardship allowance, and World Teachers’ Day incentive, the DBM added. ||
