The start of the limited in-person classes in selected schools in Negros Occidental can be considered successful, Romeo Sison of the Schools Governance Operations Division said.
Sison said they received positive reports from all schools on the first day of the face to face classes Dec. 6.
For the Negros Occidental Schools Division Office, the Valladolid National High School was chosen as the pilot school, and observers from the DepEd 6, the Department of Health, and the Philippine National Police ensured that guidelines were followed.
Sison said 20 students per classroom participated in the in-person classes under the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) strand. The school has its own holding area for the learners before the flag-raising ceremony, and the physical distancing between students in walking to the classrooms and the arrangement of the chairs inside the rooms were complied with.
Students who need to have actual experience in their laboratory subjects were the first to participate in the limited classes, and are allowed four and a half hours in the school every day, as per the guidelines.
The school can also implement an alternate system, where students, who participate in the face to face classes this week, can go back to modular learning next week so that the next batch of students can also experience the trial run of face to face classes.
Eleven public elementary and high schools were chosen to be the pilot areas in Negros Occidental. For the Bacolod City Division, the Alangilan NHS also started its limited in-person classes.
Other participating schools are the Hiyang Hiyang Elementary School for the Cadiz City Division, Mabini NHS in Escalante City, Raymundo Tongson NHS under the Himamaylan City Division, Valladolid NHS and Aguntilang ES in Isabela town for the Negros Occidental Schools Division;
Colonia Divina Integrated School for the Sagay City Division, Don Carlos Ledesma NHS for the San Carlos City Division, Patag Diotay ES in Silay, Mauboy ES in Sipalay, and the Victorias NHS for the Victorias City Schools Division Office. — MML
