A heated argument between a married couple ended in the deaths of an active Philippine Army soldier and his 26-year-old wife in Purok Tilapia, Barangay 3, Bacolod City July 12.
Initial investigation by the Bacolod City Police Station 2 showed the death of the active soldier, alias “Paul”, was due to accidental firing.
The incident began when Paul drew his service Glock 17 pistol, leading to a grappling for the weapon between the couple. The firearm discharged twice, with the first bullet hitting the ground, and the second striking Paul in the head.
Then Paul’s father, alias “Edwin”, 54, allegedly stabbed his daughter-in-law, alias “Leonora”, 11 times, the police said.
“They had a heated argument because Leonora’s younger sibling was seemingly disrespected by the soldier’s father, that’s why they fought,” PS2 chief, P/Lt. Conan Gadayan, said.
The couple was rushed to Riverside Medical Center but succumbed to their injuries, the police said.
Responding officers recovered the pistol bearing the Armed Forces of the Philippines markings at the crime scene.
Gadayan said Leonora’s family will pursue a homicide case against Edwin. | TMD
