SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SMPHI), the developer of SM City Bacolod, was recognized as one of the city’s top taxpayers during the 87th Charter Anniversary June 18 at the Bacolod Government Center.
The company received two major awards from the local government: Top Business Taxpayer and Top Real Property Taxpayer, both in the Corporate Category. The twin recognitions highlight SM Prime’s consistent contribution to the city’s revenue base and its long-standing role as a key economic partner of Bacolod.
The awarding ceremony formed part of the Charter Day rites that honored individuals, institutions, and private sector partners who have made a significant impact on the city’s progress.

SM Prime’s recognition underscored not only its financial compliance but also its sustained investment in Bacolod’s commercial and urban development.
SM City Bacolod first opened in 2007 and has since grown into a major commercial hub, serving thousands of Bacolodnons and residents from across Negros Occidental.
With ongoing expansion and mixed-use development in progress, including having the first National University campus outside Luzon, the development of a major business hub at the old airport property, and the joint partnership with the LGU for the redevelopment of the Manokan Country, the property continues to serve as a vital anchor for employment, tourism, and local enterprise.
Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya lauded SM Prime not only for its tax contributions but for its commitment to the city’s growth. As one of the largest private investors in the city, SM’s presence remains a cornerstone in efforts to position Bacolod as a rising urban center in Western Visayas.
SMPHI commits to stronger and lasting ties with the city government as it continues to make its mark in Bacolod by way of development and civic project with the congressman, who is also the incoming mayor, it said in a press release June 19.
Gasataya presented the awards together with city officials and Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson.
The 87th Charter Anniversary marks a renewed focus on public-private synergy in building a more progressive, inclusive Bacolod—and SM Prime remains firmly at the heart of that vision. ||
