The San Carlos City government, through its Emergency Operations Center Vaccine Cluster, will conduct offsite vaccination for senior citizens starting tomorrow, May 27.
City Health Office nurse Cris Ian Caballero, a member of the VC planning, campaign management and technical team, said during the EOC meeting on May 25 that the move is due to the low percentage of senior citizens, who got inoculated against the COVID-19.
Caballero said the offsite vaccination will cater to senior citizens, who cannot come to designated vaccination sites of the city, particularly the Community Based Rehab Facility and City Hospital, a press release from the city said.
Dr. Jessa Tiapon, VC deputy vice chair, said that with bigger inoculation venues and a “first come, first serve” policy, there is a high chance that the number of vaccinated individuals will increase, and the other functions of the City Hospital will not be hampered.
Tiapon advised individuals 60 years old and above, or those belonging to the priority A2 group, to not be afraid of getting the shot and avail of the free vaccine against the deadly COVID-19, the press release said.
The offsite vaccination will start in Barangay One, and those to be accommodated are elderly of barangays One to Six, including Rizal.
Records show that of the total 14,715 senior citizens in the city, only 1,058 or 7.19 percent, responded to the call for vaccination. As of May 25, only 302 or 28.5 percent of those who agreed to be inoculated received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccines.
Mayor Renato Gustilo, who got his first dose on May 14, appealed to residents to register and participate in the vaccination rollout.
“It’s for the betterment of everybody. If we achieve herd immunity, who knows we will go back to our normal lives,” Gustilo said. ||
