Sagay implements granular lockdowns

Granular lockdowns were implemented in barangays of Sagay City, Negros Occidental with cases of COVID-19 that involved transmission among family members, relatives, and neighbors that resulted in the spike of fresh infections recently.

Sagay Mayor Alfredo Marañon III said he has placed under granular lockdown selected neighborhoods with remaining number of COVID cases.

He added that the lockdown in a big portion of Barangay Bato was already lifted a few days ago. It has a high number of cases after an employee of Sagay Sugar Central, who is an engineer and constantly travel to Bacolod City, got infected. The City Health Office swabbed his close contacts and discovered 15 co-workers also positive for COVID.

Another worker of Option Sugar Mill in Sagay City proper also tested positive and infected nine colleagues, and his wife, who is working at the City Treasurer’s Office of Sagay. She, in turn, infected five other CTO employees, Marañon said.

An employee of Sagay Water District, who lives in Escalante City, also got infected and, of his close contacts swabbed, five tested positive.

One male teacher was found positive for the virus and infected six co-workers.

As of May 30, Sagay City logged 132 active cases.

Marañon said this is the highest of the COVID cases recorded in the City since last year, adding that 30 of the active cases are in isolation at the Alfredo Marañon Sr. District Hospital, while others were referred to the healing centers in EB Magalona and Silay City.

Sagay has 18 deaths since the start of the pandemic. Of the 7,590 confirmed cases, 615 have fully recovered. — MML
