Arnold Rodriguez and Michael Ginete beat Jojon Arguelles and Juvan Divinagracia in the finals to dominate the Open Doubles category of the 1st Governor Bong Lacson Tennis Cup held recently at the Panaad Tennis Courts.
Sharing in the limelight with them are Class A champions Maria Hannah Divinagracia and Jorge Cerna, who outplayed Jimboy Bernardo and Elve Viola for the top honors.
In Class B, Don Alipoon and Jeorgin Mamepdeb prevailed over Joey Catipay and Levi Canete to bag the championship.
In ladies team championship, Hannah Divinagracia, Armil Cerna, and Charmaine Mamepdeb captured the title against Espie Divinagracia, Levi Canete, and Luveley Ginete.
Jess Nemenzo and Frank Ginete were the champions in the legends category while Dr. Jovy Vergara and Roche Pilares settled for the runner up honors.
The month-long tournament drew participation from players representing clubs in La Carlota, San Carlos, Silay Hawaiian, Cadiz and NOTA Panaad, who went home with cash prizes and equipment for the youth division.
Aside from the provincial government, the tournament was also supported by the Negros Occidental Sports and Cultural Foundation, Rolling Hills Group of Companies, and the Philippine Sports Commission.
During his visit to the games, Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer announced that the 1st Vice Governor’s Tennis Cup in La Carlota will also soon take place as the next phase of the developmental grassroots sports program of the province. – NAB
