A 27-year-old motorcycle driver died after crashing into the back of a parked wingvan truck at the national highway in Sitio Mohon, Barangay Binicuil, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, Sept. 15.
Police said the victim, of Barangay 2, Himamaylan City, was driving without registration documents.
Initial investigation showed that the truck driver, “Jay”, 27, of Impasug-ong, Bukidnon, had temporarily parked his vehicle at the roadside fronting Jeamac Diagnostic Center for a coffee break while en route from Dumaguete City to Bacolod City.
The truck’s hazard lights were activated at that time, the police said, adding that according to “Jay”, the motorcycle approached in an unstable manner before it slammed into the rear of the stationary truck.
Responders from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed the motorcycle driver to the Lorenzo D. Zayco Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival by an attending physician.
A companion of the victim later told the police that prior to driving home, the motorcyclist and his co-workers had consumed alcohol as it was pay day.
The truck driver and both vehicles were brought to the Kabankalan City Police Station for proper disposition and further investigation. | TMD
