The San Carlos Hospital is holding pre-screening for residents across the city’s 18 barangays until March 6, in preparation for the upcoming medical-surgical mission.
Hospital chief, Dr. Renan Sanchez, said they target to provide free surgery to 1,500 patients during the mission, scheduled on July 13 to 18.
Services to be offered for free include gallbladder surgery, open-laparoscopy, thyroidectomy, colon surgery, mastectomy and other breast-related procedures, large lipoma removal, appendectomy, hemorrhoidectomy, inguinal hernia repair, fistulectomy, cleft lip repair, cesarean section, total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (TAHBSO), myomectomy, dilatation and curettage, cataract removal, pterygium excision, and removal of cysts, skin tags, and warts.
Sanchez encouraged residents interested in availing of the free services to visit their barangay health centers, and consult with midwives regarding the requirements.
The initiative is made possible through a partnership between the local government of San Carlos City and the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Medical Mission Inc., the city said.
Last week, residents of barangays Punao and Bagonbon underwent pre-screening, and arrived at the city hospital with referrals from their respective barangays, laboratory and X-ray results, and other required diagnostic documents recently.
Medical professionals assessed their blood pressure, weight, and laboratory results to determine their suitability for the procedure, the city said. ||
