Police operatives in Negros Island, including Bacolod City, seized around P3.8 million in suspected shabu this first two days of February.

The Police Regional Office 6 said the series of operations against illegal drugs, from 6 a.m. Feb. 1 to 5:59 a.m. Feb. 2, resulted in the arrest of eight suspects and the confiscation of P381,000 worth of suspected shabu by personnel of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office.

The Bacolod City Police Office, meanwhile, logged one arrest and recovered P81,000 in suspected illegal drugs, the PRO6 added.

In Dumaguete City, about P3.4 million in suspected shabu was seized from a 21-year-old female during a buy-bust operation Feb. 2, the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) said.

Lt. Stephen Polinar, NOPPO spokesperson, said the woman is tagged as a high-value individual in the police’s list of drug personalities.

“We are now looking into whether she had previous involvement in the illegal drug trade or if there are pending cases against her,” Polinar said in a Philippine News Agency report, adding the suspect, who hails from nearby Bacong town, was arrested in Purok Bliss, Barangay Talay, Dumaguete, with around 500 grams of suspected shabu.

A high-value individual was also arrested by operatives of the Bacolod City Drug Enforcement Unit Jan. 31.

The buy-bust operation in Purok Sigay, Barangay 2, Bacolod, led to the arrest of “aka Joseph”, 45, of the purok, and the confiscation of approximately 110 grams of suspected shabu, with a standard drug price of P748,000.

All suspects are facing charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The public, meanwhile, is urged to remain vigilant and help in the fight against illegal drugs for a safer and drug-free community. ||
