P17.5M school building inaugurated in Dumaguete

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo led the inauguration of the two-storey, eight-classroom school building, worth P17.5 million, for South City Elementary School (SCES) in Barangay Mangnao, Dumaguete City recently.

Department of Education officials, led by incoming Negros Island regional director Ramir Uytico, and SCES principal Archites Daksla expressed gratitude to the city government for allocating funds for the construction of school buildings that will provide adequate classrooms for the students, thus improving the learning environment.

Remollo stressed that his administration is investing in the construction of school buildings in different public schools to help address the shortage of classrooms, the city said in a press release April 4.

South City Elementary School is one of the seven recipients of the school building program, totaling P81.4 million, taken from the savings of the local government.

The others include the two-storey, eight-classroom school building and improvement of covered stage for Cadawinonan Elementary School, P18 million; two-storey, two-classroom school building and completion of two-storey, two-classrooms school building for Junob National High School, P5.5 million;

Two-storey, eight-classroom school building for North City Elementary School, P17.5 million; three-storey, six-classroom school building and completion of two-storey, two-classroom school building for Camanjac National High School, P10.6 million; two-storey, six-classroom school building for Cantil-e Elementary School, P9 million; and electrical upgrade for the Dumaguete City National High School, worth P1 million.

Last year, the city government also acquired the campus and buildings of the former Catherina Cittadini School, which Remollo designated as the new home for students and faculty members of both the City Central School and Calindagan Elementary School.

The faculty and staff of NCES, the Parents-Teachers Association represented by Gilbert Ablong Jr., barangay officials, and other Deped officials, including assistant schools division superintendent Juditha Mapue, Lilybeth Patrocinio Estrosos, and Antonieta Vendiola, meanwhile, manifested their collective appreciation for the significant and consistent support of the local government to the public school sector. ||
