Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the ongoing  39th Negros Trade Fair  at SMX Convention Center in SM Aura, Taguig City has generated P7.4 million in sales on its opening day on Sept. 23.

Lacson, however, said it was slightly lower compared to the first-day sales last year.

The Association of Negros Producers (ANP), in partnership with the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental, organizes the annual fair, which is participated by 139 exhibitors this year, among these 23 cities and municipalities in Negros Island Region, until Sept. 28.

Topping the sales was the food sector at 39 percent, followed by the fashion sector at 28 percent, and gifts and housewares at 15 percent, Mary Ann Colmenares, Negros Trade Fair co-chairperson, said.

She added that the remaining sales were generated by the local government unit booths.

Lacson said he is thankful to the SM Supermalls management, which advertised the event in all major newspapers and on social media.

He noted that   the 39th edition became more meaningful with the participation of Negros Oriental and Siquijor.

Former rebels also joined the trade fair, under the Balik Salig program of the Provincial Peace and Order Council and ANP, as they showcased their products and entrepreneurial spirit.

“Their presence here is not only a proof of transformation and reintegration, but also a powerful reminder that peace and progress go hand in hand,” the governor said. | GB
