The Guinness World Records has recognized the “Manok ni Cano Gwapo Tan” in Talisay City, Negros Occidental as the largest building in the shape of a chicken.

The structure is located at the famous Campuestohan Highland Resort owned by former Bacolod City Councilor Ricardo “Cano” Tan.

In a press briefing on Monday, Tan said the Guinness World Records issued a certificate on Sept. 8, giving recognition to the iconic landmark of the family- owned resort in Barangay Cabatangan.

The 114-feet Rooster Building at the Campuestohan Highland Resort in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

“The largest building in the shape of a chicken measures 34.9 meters (114 feet 7 inches) in height, 12.1 meters (39 feet 9 inches) in width and 28.1 meters (92 feet 5 inches) in length and was achieved by Ricardo Cano Gwapo Tan (Philippines) at Campuestohan Highland Resort in Negros Occidental, Philippines, as verified on 8 September 2024,” the Guinness World Records declared on its website.

The Tan family is a devotee of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose birthday is Sept. 8.

The building houses 15 rooms, with amenities of a hotel.

“It is the largest building in the shape of a chicken, the first and only one, not only in the Philippines, but in the whole world. We made history, and nobody was able to achieve this, but us,” Tan said.

After getting recognition from the Guinness World Records, Tan said “all my sacrifices have been compensated”, noting that of the more than 55,000 which applied for recognitions, only 5,000 were able to make it this year, including him.

The construction of the building was completed in 456 days.

Through the building’s chicken shape, Tan said he wants to give recognition to the fighting cock breeding industry of the province.

The industry provides livelihood to hundreds of thousands of Negrenses, and boosts the economy of Negros Occidental, next only to sugar.

The inauguration and formal declaration of the 114-foot building in the shape of a chicken, as certified by Guinness World Records, is set on Oct. 19. | GB
