The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has reported the occurrence of a 30-minute ash emission at Kanlaon Volcano as well as earthquakes in two localities in Negros Occidental on Sunday.
The ash emission at the summit crater of Kanlaon Volcano was logged from 6:47 a.m. to 7:17 a.m.
The grayish plumes rose around 300 meters above the crater and drifted southeast, based on monitoring from the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory-Canlaon City internet protocol camera.
Phivolcs reminded the public that Alert Level 2 remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano.
The magnitude 2 tremor in Murcia and magnitude 2.4 quake in La Carlota City were of tectonic origin, Phivolcs said.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) reported ground subsidence (hole) in Barangay Talaptap, La Castellana.
The MDRMMO encouraged town residents to report any cracks, ground shifts, or new holes immediately to barangay officials or the DRRM hotline (0963)3018164 as it prohibited any attempt to fill the hole without professional guidance. | GB
