Mother of La Castellana mayor dies of COVID-19

La Castellana Liga ng mga Barangay chairwoman Neome Nicor, 71, succumbed to COVID-19 at South Bacolod General Hospital in Bacolod City Monday, her daughter, Mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan, said.

Nicor, wife of former town mayor Alberto Nicor, served as the barangay captain of Monghanoy since 2013, and represented the Liga ng mga Barangay for two terms.

La Castellana Liga ng mga Barangay chairwoman Noeme Nicor, mother of Mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan, died of COVID and was cremated Oct. 11.

Mayor Mangilimutan said her mother refused to receive the vaccine against the coronavirus. She had high blood sugar level, experienced a productive cough, and started to lose her appetite Oct. 4.

She was isolated in their farm in Barangay Monghanoy and was not able to join her family during the Holy Mass and filing of their Certificates of Candidacy Oct. 8.

She underwent an antigen test and was found positive, so she was subjected to the RT-PCR test that also yielded a positive result Oct. 9. She was rushed to the hospital in Bacolod and needed a high flow oxygen therapy but died Oct. 11 at around 8:30 a.m.

She was cremated that same day and her ashes now at her residence in the town proper of La Castellana.

The reelectionist mayor said the public should accept that COVID is real and urged everyone to get vaccinated.

She added that her father, who is her running mate in the May 2022 elections, tested negative of COVID, adding that she had no close contact with her mother lately./MML, GB
