The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) District Southern Visayas said it is set to receive 10 hectares of land as donation from the municipal government of Mabinay in Negros Oriental for its proposed headquarters.

It said that during the visit of Commo. Ludovico Librilla Jr., district commander of the Coast Guard District Southern Visayas to Mabinay Mayor Ernie Jango Uy Nov. 25, the latter committed to donate 10 hectares of land for the proposed construction of the PCG headquarters.

Uy reassured the PCG that the municipality will speed up the process of acquiring the parcel of land, it added.

“The Coast Guard District Southern Visayas greatly appreciates this gesture of support from the municipality of Mabinay. As the PCG continues to grow as an organization, this donation with the goal of constructing a building for the headquarters will greatly help the Coastguardians of Southern Visayas in acquiring a conducive work space,” the PCG said in a statement.

It added that the proposed building would be of great use for PCG personnel in performing their functions and serving the Negros Island Region more effectively.

Negros Oriental 2nd District Rep. Manuel Sagarbarria, meanwhile, pledged assistance in the construction of the three-storey building and in donating computers that will help enhance the administrative and operational efficiency of the PCG district.

The PCG officers also met with Rex Del Moro Jr., acting port manager of the Philippine Ports Authority in Dumaguete recently to discuss safety and security concerns, in anticipation for the influx of passengers this yuletide season.

During the meeting, both parties stressed the need to strictly inspect the baggage and cargoes onboard vessels, in collaboration with the PPA Police and PCG K9.

Future activities and engagements between both agencies will also be conducted to intensify law enforcement strategy and mitigate unlawful issues that may arise, the PCG said, adding this collaboration “will benefit concerned agencies and the seagoing public”. | CGC
