Bacolod City marks today (Oct. 25) the 41st MassKara Festival with a virtual celebration to be aired over SkyCable Channel 53.

Reports from city hall said the virtual event is in commemoration of the 4th Sunday of October, traditionally observed in Bacolod as the highlight of annual festival.

Earlier, Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia ordered the suspension of public celebration of the MassKara Festival and other related activities to comply with health and safety protocols amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Facts and scientific studies supported by empirical data have undoubtedly established that mass gatherings can be an effective channel of transmitting and spreading infections, like the COVID-19,” Leonardia said.

Executive Order No. 62, series of 2020, signed by Leonardia stated that

parades, street dance competitions, exhibits, road shows, dance, talent, singing, beauty, costume, pyrotechnic contests, concerts, sports events, cockfights, open markets for food, plants, wares and apparel, industrial and commercial fairs, or any other form of interactions in open places, are all suspended during the whole month of October.
