In his speech during the opening ceremony of the 30th Sinigayan Festival at the plaza, he also praised the progress, culture, and unity of Sagaynons.

Sagay City is known also for its tourist destinations such as the Carbin Reef, Lapus-Lapus conservation area, Suyac Island Mangrove eco-park, among others.

“Because Sagay has received many blessings, there are many reasons to celebrate the Sinigayan Festival,” the governor said, adding that “festivals serve as a way to remember the past while appreciating the achievements of the present”.

Lacson cited the festival’s theme, “We Learn, We Live, We Love,” which emphasizes that life becomes meaningful when people continue to learn, live with purpose, and show love to others – values that strengthen communities.

He called on Sagaynons to remain united in pursuing the continued growth of their city and assured them of the provincial government’s full support, especially for programs benefiting the youth.

Reminding the public that communities worldwide continue to feel the impact of global issues, particularly tensions and conflicts in the Middle East, the governor encouraged everyone to help their communities in whatever way they can.

Lacson ended his speech by congratulating Sagay for maintaining peace and progress through the years, citing the strong leadership of local officials and the unity among Sagaynons as key factors for development.

Sagay City Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva described the opening day of the festival as successful due to the good weather and cooperation of everybody.

With a lot of activities lined up for the week-long celebrations, Cueva said “we want everybody to enjoy”, expressing his optimism that it will be a peaceful festival.

About 130 police personnel have been deployed to ensure that the festivities will be peaceful and orderly.

The opening ceremony of the Sinigayan Festival was also attended by Education Assistant Secretary Jerome Buenviaje and Department of Agriculture-Negros Island Region Director Jose Albert Barrogo. | GB
