Malacañang has declared June 12 and 17 this year as regular holidays, and private sector employees are entitled to a 200 percent salary, as per pay rules, if they render work on these days.
June 12, a Wednesday, is Independence Day, and listed as a regular holiday per Proclamation 368, which declares the regular and special nonworking days for year 2024.
June 17, a Monday, has also been declared a regular holiday to observe Eid’l Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice, per Proclamation 579 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin June 4 and made public this afternoon, June 5.
Eid’l Adha is one of the two greatest feasts of Islam. The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos has recommended that June 17 be declared a national holiday, in observance of Eid’l Adha, following the 1445 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar, the proclamation said.
The Department of Labor and Employment has ruled that for work done during the regular holiday, a private sector employer shall pay a total of 200 percent of the employee’s wage for that day for the first eight hours, computed as basic wage x 200 percent.
“For work done in excess of eight hours, the employer shall pay an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate, or hourly rate of the basic wage x 200 percent x 130 percent x number of hours worked.
“If the employee does not work, he or she shall be paid 100 percent of the wage for that day, provided that s/he reports to work or is on leave of absence with pay on the day immediately preceding the regular holiday,” the DOLE added. | CGC
