About 50 residents living near the danger area of Barangay 2 in Bacolod City, particularly near the Mambuloc Creek, have been told to vacate May 10.
The notice to vacate was issued by the City Legal Office, with CLO head, Atty. Romeo Carlos Ting Jr. assuring them that they will be accommodated in the city’s relocation sites.
The Bacolod City Engineer’s Office Maintenance Division, in collaboration with the Department of Public Works and Highways, barangays 8 and 2, the IPM-DPS, Bacolod Traffic Authority Office, and the Office of Councilor Psyche Marie Sy, also conducted a massive cleaning and garbage hauling at the Mambuloc Creek Wednesday.
The activity complements the efforts of the DPWH to declog the creek to prevent flooding, the city said.
It is also one of the initiatives of Mayor Alfredo Benitez to address the problem on flashfloods, even as he called on Bacolodnons to be responsible and properly dispose of their garbage.
Plans are also being finalized for the implementation of the Bredco drainage system project, which involves the construction of a diversion canal to mitigate floods, especially at Rizal Street, SM City Bacolod, and public plaza, the city said. ||
