On January 20–22, 2026, Baptist pastors of the Convention Baptist Ministers Association, serving the churches of the Convention of Philippine Baptist Churches, gather in General Santos City with the theme “I am Accountable.” This gathering reminds us that ministry is not merely a calling to lead, but a calling to answer. Pastors are entrusted with God’s Word, God’s people, and God’s mission. Accountability, therefore, is not a burden but a sacred responsibility before God and the church.

From the earliest days of the church, leaders were recognized as stewards. The apostles understood that authority in ministry was always paired with responsibility.

First, acknowledge accountability to God.

1 Corinthians 4:1–2 says, “This, then, is how you ought to regard us, as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed. Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.”

Paul reminds church leaders that they are servants and stewards. Ministry is a trust given by God, not a personal possession. Faithfulness, not popularity or success, is the measure of true ministry. Every sermon preached, decision made, and life lived is ultimately examined by God Himself.

Ministry is measured not by results, but by faithfulness before God.

Second, practice accountability within the Body of Christ.

Romans 14:12, “So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.”

Accountability is both personal and communal. Pastors are accountable not only to God, but also to the church and to fellow ministers. Fellowship gatherings remind us that ministry is never meant to be carried alone. Mutual encouragement, correction, and prayer strengthen leaders and protect the integrity of the church.

Let us walk together in transparency and brotherhood. Accountability nurtures spiritual health, guards our witness, and strengthens the mission of the church.

Accountability is not weakness, it is strength in community.

As we gather in General Santos, may the theme “I am Accountable” renew our calling as servants of Christ. Let us lead with integrity, serve with humility, and walk faithfully before God and His people. Accountability anchors our ministry, protects our witness, and honors the One who called us. | NWI
