Fruit vendor robbed, shot dead

A fruit vendor was robbed and shot dead by a still unidentified companion in Barangay Tugbon, Calatrava town, Negros Occidental on Monday, Nov. 8.

Police identified the victim as Jay Sabolbora, of legal age, and a resident of Barangay Bagong Silang, Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental.

P/Major Robert Indiape of the Calatrava Police Station said investigation revealed that the victim was driving his canter truck on his way back to Don Salvador Benedicto from Cebu, where he delivered pineapples, when his unidentified passenger shot him.

Vendor Jay Salborbora was robbed and shot dead in Calatrava town Monday, Nov. 8.

Sabolbora was hit in the shoulder but was able to jump off the truck and try to escape. But the suspect chased after the victim around 200 meters from the truck and shot him again in the head and chest, causing his death.

The police said they are eyeing robbery as motive since the sling bag of the victim, containing about P60,000 in cash proceeds, was missing.

Recovered at the crime scene were four fired cartridge cases of a .45 caliber pistol. The Calatrava Municipal Police Station is conducting further investigation to identify and arrest the killer. — MML
