Students, tourists, and residents who frequent the Manuel L. Quezon Park can now avail of free public Wi-Fi, just like those who have transactions at the Dumaguete City Hall compound.
The project is strongly supported by Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, and undertaken by both the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the city government so that the public will have free and unlimited Wi-Fi access while in the vicinity of Quezon Park, City Library, Local Civil Registrar, the e-BOSS, and City Treasurer’s Office.
Councilor Karissa Tolentino-Maxino, author of the Free Public Wi-Fi Internet Access ordinance, said the free offerings has an internet speed of up to 300 Mbps without a time limit for users to surf the internet for study, entertainment, and other services.
This speed is fast enough for multiple users streaming, gaming, or working.
To access the service, a user only has to press the Wi-Fi icon of his or her phone and choose “DICTfreewifi4all”, to be directed to the portal and connect to the internet, the city said in a press release.
The Office of City Administrator Lilani Ramon said that PLDT is the net provider in the City Hall compound while the Philippine Communication Satellite Corporation was contracted as provider in Quezon Park. ||
