“Ka Aubrey,” a former New People’s Army (NPA) fighter, received assistance from the Philippine Army, provincial government of Negros Oriental and other government agencies after giving birth to her third child on Jan. 27 at a hospital in Dumaguete City.
She and her also pregnant comrade “Ka Sarah” were rescued by troops of the 11th Infantry Battalion (IB), Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office and 705th Mobile Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-7 last Dec. 18.
In an interview, “Ka Aubrey” said she entrusted the care of her two children to their supporters, whom she had not also seen for three years.
After the rescue operation, “Ka Aubrey,” who was then eight months pregnant, and her comrade received assistance such as food packs, hygiene kits, and newborn clothes, according to a statement issued by the 11IB.
The rescue operation not only ensured the two women’s safety, but also paved the way for Ka Aubrey’s reunion with her two children on Jan. 6.
Brig. Gen. Joey Escanillas, commander of the 302nd Infantry Brigade, said “our duty goes beyond ensuring security.”
“In collaboration with other agencies and local government units, we aim to provide a supportive environment for individuals seeking a new path in life,” he added.
As “Ka Aubrey” embarks on a new chapter in her life, the Philippine Army remains dedicated to providing support for rebels who want to return to the fold of law, Escanillas said. | GB
